The Collaborative Dog works with dogs and their people to resolve behavior issues, enhance basic house manners, and create a better relationship between species. Our training methods are scientifically based and done without fear, pain, or intimidation.
Kou Nelson
Trainer, Behavior Counselor,Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and Managing Member
Kou applies her background in education and learning theory to working with animals and their people. After teaching high school for 15 years, she attended The Canine Behavior Academy I and II at Marin Humane Society and has continued her education in animal ethology and specialized training by attending a wide variety of seminars and classes. She started training dogs at Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation and then formed The Collaborative Dog, LLC in Concord, California in 2013 until 2018. In 2018, Kou moved to Pennsylvania.
Kou has shared her life with a variety of dogs, including long-haired dachshunds, a jindo, herding breeds, and a "fluff," always harboring a soft spot for "rescue dogs." In addition to dogs, Kou has applied her skills to training a variety of other animals, including goats, donkeys, chickens, and even guinea pigs! She believes that the goal of any training is to enrich the lives of animals and humans.
SERVICES AND FEES
IN-YOUR-HOME TRAINING
We work with you and your dog in the comfort and convenience of your home. We offer consults, single sessions, and packages.
2 hr consult: $150 | 1 hr: $75
DAY TRAINING
We work with your pup alone, in your home, 3-5 days a week (depending on the behavior needs) and then update you with the skills at the end of the week so you don't have to worry about practicing.
Prices start at $60 a day depending on behavior.
GROUP CLASSES
Perfect for addressing basic behaviors or more specialized skills. Class sizes are limited to 4, allowing for personal attention at an economic price.
